It took me working through 2 blizzards, 3 bouts of bronchitis, and a hectic work schedule but I finished this crazy thing! Behold the King!
Elvis Presley Superstar, Part II
I finally sat down to add some color to the king! I put on The Black Crowes “Croweology” cd and started mixing the flesh color. Flesh always causes a problem. After so many portraits I think I would get it down to a science by now.
One thing that I did different on this portrait is I added a radial background pattern behind Elvis. It adds to the superstar look.
Elvis Presley Superstar, Part I
I finally started my painting of The King. I was a fan of Elvis when I was a kid but lost interest when I first saw KISS and got into heavy metal. After visiting Graceland a few years ago (every red-blooded American should) I started to appreciate him again.
This is the line art for the painting. It took a few hours but has turned out pretty good. I drew this while watching the River Monsters episode of Amazon Flesh Eaters, which scared me from ever swimming in a lake again!
Doing Adam For Xmas – Part II
I pulled an all niter and finished the Adam Lambert portrait. It turned out pretty good – better than I thought it would. I am sure my friends mother will like it when she opens it on Christmas morning!
I painted and cut the mat board and framed it to be delivered tonight.
This will be my last painting until after the new year.
Doing Adam For Xmas! – Part I
I am starting the Adam Lambert portrait for a friends mom. She loves that crazy Idol and her son, being a good boy, is forking out hard earned cash for me to stay at home at night, missing crazy Christmas parties so his mom will be able to decorate her walls with the high cheek boned portrait of her Adam Lambert. She is a lovely woman and her son is one of my closest friends so I don’t mind.
I am going to utilize some tricks and techniques a came up with when I was working on Chuck Berry. Since converting from pen and ink to digital painting I have been struggling with the my line technique. It went from a wild and free line work with a paint brush to a smooth and controlled look with a Wacom tablet, and it drove me crazy! I finally developed the digital technique to get the wild brush and ink look the way I want. I hope that makes sense.
So, I am going to feast on chocolate frosted donuts and peppermint flavored coffee ( a birthday gift), crank up Cannibal Corpses’ 15 Year Killing Spree box set and do work!
Chuck Berry Lays It Down – Part III
I finally finished this beast and I am pleased on how it turned out. It is loud and chaotic and a messy thing. I started it after Halloween but I didn’t complete it until the first day of December.

Chuck Berry Lays It Down – Part II
This is the second phase of my portrait of rock and roll legend Chuck Berry. I cleaned up the lines and colored him in. I was using a black and white photo as a reference so I made up the colors as I went along.
